The aging house at Hubert-Minz-Strasse 10 in Sankt Augustin is covered in scaffolding. Crane trucks and concrete specialists work on the building shell of the tax office. Public traffic is currently suspended, not just because of the Corona crisis. The entrance is not even accessible to visitors. "Due to construction work, the tax office will probably remain closed until 20.7.2020," says a large sign behind the barrier.

Currently, modernisation and extension work is taking place at the Sankt Augustin tax office, as Tim Irion, deputy head of the press department of the Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW (BLB) in Düsseldorf, announced on request. According to the report, the work includes the replacement of the entire façade surfaces and the roof covering, the downpipes and risers as well as the complete renewal of the sanitary facilities and the kitchen. In addition, the building wing facing Rathausallee will be extended and the existing low-rise building will be replaced by a new building.

According to GA information, there are probably extensive problems on the construction site. Employees report that one of the long balconies fell "unexpectedly" and parts of the building have been cleared and closed, including offices and the canteen.

Irion confirms that on the building side facing Hubert-Minz-Strasse, "in the night of June 24, a parapet element came loose in the area above the ground floor". Irion: "The outside area there is covered with hedges and bushes, so that there was no danger of injury at any time. Within the framework of the obligation to maintain safety on the roads, BLB NRW nevertheless reacted immediately and initiated safety measures and barriers on and around the affected areas.

Each of the three wings of the tax office building forms a separate construction section. The work of the first construction phase concerns the building area on Rathausallee. According to the BLB spokesperson, they began in April, "are running according to plan and are therefore on schedule". The facade elements facing Rathausallee have already been dismantled, and the low-rise building has already been demolished to make room for the new building. The structural work for this has already begun.
