26-year-old did not see patrol car Three seriously injured after accident with police car in Bonn

Bonn-Gronau · Three people were seriously injured in an accident on Saturday night. A 26-year-old woman driver crashed into a patrol car, which was crossing an intersection with its flashing lights and siren on.

Shortly after the end of Rhine in Flames on Saturday night, three people were seriously injured in a traffic accident on Friedrich-Ebert-Allee. A 26-year-old woman driver from the Altenkirchen district collided with a patrol car driving over the intersection between the B9 and Heussallee at around 1.30pm with flashing lights and its siren on. The officers were just coming from the Rheinaue to an operation in Bonn city centre. The two police officers, 27 and 32 years old, and the young car driver were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

According to police, the 26-year-old wanted to drive her small car from Genscherallee across the B9 into Heussallee when the patrol car approached. It rammed head on into the car on the passenger side causing it to spin around. The patrol car continued for several metres further and came to a halt against a bollard on the right hand side pavement.

Both vehicles were written off and had to be towed away after the fire brigade had floodlit the intersection for the complex accident investigation. It has not yet been possible to establish which car crossed the intersection on red. Property damage is estimated at around 30,000 Euros. (Original text: Nicolas Ottersbach. Translation: kc)
