August 2 - 4 Tips for the weekend in Bonn and the region

Bonn · It’s the last month of summer - time to get out and visit one of the great outdoor concerts this weekend! Cheer on the Bonn Capitals baseball team in the playoffs, visit the big LGBT summer party, take in an antique and flea market, or make a trip to Altenahr for the Middle Ages Festival.

Live music at the Park Restaurant Rheinaue beer garden

Park Restaurant Rheinaue live music: Enjoy some live music outdoors at the beer garden in the Rheinaue. On Friday, it’s Cocker On The Rocks with a "Tribute to Joe Cocker", on Saturday it will be Sissi A. -- Creedence Revival with a "Tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival" and Sunday features Jörg Hegemann Boogie Trio with “Boogie Woogie-Power”

Altenahr Middle Ages Festival

Altenahr Burgenfest (Middle Ages Festival): On Friday, this year’s festival wine is introduced on the terrace at the foot of the church "Maria Verkündigung" at 6pm in Altenahr town center. On Saturday at 12, it’s the official opening, followed by live music, performances, workshops and a free tour of the historic Are Castle ruins at 3pm (meeting point is the Altenahr town hall). The medieval festival includes theater, numerous stands with handmade arts and crafts, and food and drink in a cozy and quaint atmosphere. For the little ones there are clowns and magic, balloon art, pony rides and more. The highlight is a fireworks at 10 pm on Saturday night, when Bengali lights illuminate the Are Castle ruins.

World stars at Cologne Cathedral square

Concert weekend at Roncalliplatz: Could there be a more beautiful concert venue than the square right at the Cologne Cathedral? Three world stars will perform there under open skies. On Thursday at 8pm, Grammy Award-winning composer and jazz entertainer Chilly Gonzales takes the stage. Then Albert Hammond performs on Saturday at 8pm with his “Songbook Tour 2019”: You will know many of the songs he has written that were made famous by other artists: “It Never Rains in Southern California”, “The Air That I Breathe”, “I’m a Train”. The 75-year-old will be giving his own 2 1/2 hour open air concert, playing the songs that catapulted his career as a songwriter. On Saturday, Paolo Conte, Italian singer, pianist, and composer will entertain the crowd. Tickets can be purchased at koelnticket.de or at the box office, which opens at 6:30 pm each day of the performances.

Bonn Rocks at the Brückenforum

“Bonn Rockt”: It’s a big rock party with music from the 70‘s up to current hits. DJ’s Max Mettler and Manu Pop do some musical steering through the night while visitors rock and sing along. Tickets are 10 euros and can be purchased in advance online: Bonn Rockt | Brückenforum Bonn

Stadtgarten concert

Stadtgarten (City lawn) concert series: For five weekends, from August 2 until August 31, there will be a series of open air concerts in the city, open to all free of charge. They take place at the Alten Zoll at the Stadtgarten. On Saturday at 7 pm it’s Waldek Leczkowskis' Orange Fusion featuring Albert N'sanda with groovy jazz and at 8:30 pm you can listen to, Loisach Marci - Bavaria's new cultural ambassador incorporating hiphop, blues and electrobeat.

Beethoven's Bunte

Beethoven’s Bunte: The German word “bunt” means colorful and diverse and in this case describes a big LGBT summer party on the Münsterplatz. It is held every year on the 1st Saturday in August. Presented by r(h)einqueer Bonn e.V., visitors will find a stage program with music, comedy, variety, travesty, talk show, food and drink and lots of people. Bonn Capitals baseball playoffs

Bonn Capitals Finale Games 3 & 4: It’s time for the German Baseball Bundesliga finals, come and cheer on the Bonn team at the Rheinaue Baseball Stadium, they are a winning team! They face Heidenheim on both Saturday and Sunday for the deciding phase of the Best-of-Five-Series.
