Construction zones Traffic backed up on Reuterstraße

Bonn · A construction site on Reuterstraße caused major traffic back-up on Friday. Work on a new traffic circle at Alten Friedhof is ahead of schedule.

Friday afternoon was no picnic for commuters on Reuterstraße. A new construction site left only one lane open. For some days now, it has also been slow going at the Alten Friedhof (Old Cemetery) where a new traffic circle is being built.

On Reuterstraße, between Schumannstraße and Bonner Talweg, two manhole covers are being renewed, and workers had to dig deep holes. Drivers who were heading towards the autobahn found themselves backed up all the way to the ARC ’89 sculpture. It was a long and tedious ride, with traffic inching forward very slowly.

The city hopes the situation will become better on the weekend. But even on Sunday when no workers are present at the site, the lane will still be closed because the sealing of the manhole cover needs to become firm.

At the Alten Friedhof traffic circle, workers are putting down new markings on the road and this is resulting in partial lane closings. Work is also being done on pedestrian and biker areas. City roadworks manager, Peter Esch says they are about two months ahead of schedule, however and the traffic circle project will definitely be completed before Christmas.
