Storm Yulia hits the region Trees threatened to fall on carnival parade in Siegburg
Lohmar/Siegburg/Wachtberg/Sankt Augustin · Storm "Yulia" left its first traces in the region on Sunday. In Lohmar an element of the roof of an indoor riding arena broke off, in Siegburg and Sankt Augustin trees threatened to fall on a carnival parade, and in Wachtberg a tree fell on a residential building.
Gusts of wind of up to 85 kilometres per hour left their first traces in the Rhein-Sieg district at noon on Sunday. In Lohmar, an element of the roof of a 70 by 30 metre indoor riding arena has come loose and threatens to fly away.
According to initial information, however, the fire brigade cannot intervene preventively; a roofer is needed to avert the danger. At least there is little danger from the loose roof element - there are only fields there. However, the fire brigade has closed off a walking path for safety reasons.
There was also a storm related fire brigade operation in Siegburg-Wolsdorf. There, the carnival procession had to be interrupted at around 3.15 pm because two trees about 20 metres high threatened to fall onto the procession. The fire brigade felled them for safety reasons, so that the procession could continue after a short interruption.
„Yulia“ also raged in Wachtberg-Villip: There, a tree fell on a residential building in the main street.
In Sankt Augustin the fire brigade managed to secure a tree before it toppled over. Seven firemen were on duty in Udetstraße and secured the tree with ropes to other trees. According to local information, the tree standing between two houses should not be felled.
Because then the surrounding buildings would be damaged. So the fire brigade ended the operation and handed over the case to a specialist company. Next week, the company will remove the tree using a special method.
