Gault & Millau restaurant guide Two Bonn restaurants ranked among the best in NRW

Düsseldorf · According to the Gault & Millau gourmet guide, two Bonn restaurants have made it into the best ranked in NRW. And not for the first time. The restaurant critics also discovered the German Master of Desserts in Cologne.

Despite this year’s lockdown and the pandemic, the Gault & Millau gourmet guide has once again sent its critics to the best restaurants in the country. The German Master of Desserts was declared in Cologne, and the title of Chef of the Year goes to Thomas Schanz from Piesport on the Moselle river in Rhineland-Palatinate. Two restaurants in Bonn have also repeatedly made it into the list of the top restaurants in NRW: 17 out of 20 points went to both Halbedel's Gasthaus in Bad Godesberg’s villa district and to Yunico on the top floor of the Kameha Grand Hotel.

Cologne's Hannes Radeck is the best pâtissier in Germany

This year, the best pâtissier in Germany comes from Cologne and is only 28 years old – his name is Hannes Radeck and he is responsible for the desserts at the Cologne restaurant Ox & Klee. Radeck presents "at first glance almost simple desserts of high precision, with great flavour and finesse. And all this without any fermented vegetables, exuberant bacon or superficial effects," the gourmet guide praised on Thursday. A memorable way to round off the complex journey through the menu at Ox & Klee, the guide states.

The list of top restaurants in NRW is still headed by the Vêndome with Joachim Wissler in Bergisch Gladbach, which has been in the lead for twelve years now, followed by Le Moissonnier in Cologne. The team from Gut Lärchenhof in Pulheim has been able to cook its way up into the top 3 in NRW.

But to experience the Chef of Year 2021, you will need to leave NRW and visit the neighbouring state of Rhineland-Palatinate - here Thomas Schanz is the chef at the restaurant Schanz in Piesport an der Mosel, far away from the metropolises. It was said that he has quietly developed his parents' business into one of the best restaurants in Germany.

The Gault & Millau guide features eight new fine dining establishments in NRW, and 25 NRW restaurants are newly recommended, nine of which are in Düsseldorf and six in Cologne.
