Corona cases in the region Two schools closed in the Siebengebirge area

Siebengebirge · A pupil of the Siebengebirgsgymnasium is infected with the coronavirus. There is a suspected case at Oelberg-Gymnasium. Both schools are therefore closed until the situation is clarified. The CJD is also indirectly affected by Corona.

There will be empty classrooms at Siebengebirgsgymnasium and Oelberg-Gymnasium. However, school operations are to be resumed as soon as possible - without the potential virus carriers.

Now the coronavirus has also reached secondary schools in the Siebengebirge. The Gymnasium am Oelberg in Oberpleis will remain closed on Thursday due to a suspected case. The Siebengebirgsgymnasium in Bad Honnef will not even teach on Thursday and Friday.

Here there is a confirmed case. At the Jugenddorf-Christophorusschule (CJD) in Königswinter, the parents of a high school student are affected. Students who had close contact with her were asked not to visit the school until the end of the week as well.

"We have suspended school operations for Thursday," headmistress Sonja Friedrich told the General-Anzeiger. Scheduled class tests, exams and learning status surveys would be made up for. A student of the high school had had contact with a confirmed case and showed symptoms. The student had been tested on Wednesday.

The results are expected by Thursday. If the result is negative, the school will resume operations on Friday. "This is purely a protective measure for the school community. There is no reason for hysteria," Friedrich said. Should the test be positive, the further procedure would have to be coordinated with the other authorities.

Illness first posted on the net

At Sibi, the student who tested positive posted the result of his examination in the social networks. Headmistress Gabriele Jacob announced on Wednesday afternoon that the school had decided, in consultation with the head of the health department, to close the school on Thursday and Friday in order to minimise the risk, as individual counselling and comprehensive case investigation could not be provided in the remaining time.

"The current focus is on the protection of the health of the pupils and of elderly and pre-stressed people", said Mayor Otto Neuhoff. On Tuesday evening, the CJD had informed parents, teachers and staff that the parents of a high school student had contracted coronavirus. The people affected had acted very prudently and informed the school. The pupil had not been infected herself so far and had not been tested.

"You can't get much closer to someone than in your own family," said Reinhard Koglin, head of the CJD administration, somewhat astonished. However, only people who show symptoms are tested. As a precautionary measure, those students who had close contact with the student were asked not to visit the school until the end of the week.
