New public transport stop UN Campus stop to be completed early

Bonn · On November 1, the first train will roll in to the UN Campus stop, about six weeks earlier than initially planned. The official opening will be on November 4.

This time Deutsche Bahn (German Rail) is even ahead of schedule. Beginning on November 1, six weeks earlier than originally planned, regional trains will stop at the "Bonn - UN Campus" stop. On All Saints Day, the RE 81702 which leaves Remagen at 6:28 am will arrive for the first time at the stop. Officially, the new stop will be opened on Saturday, November 4. The original completion date of December 10 was moved forward to ensure the stop was finished in time for the climate summit.

While the UN Climate Conference is running, lines RE 5 (DB Regio NRW), RB 26 (Transregio), RB 48 (National Express) and RB 30 (DB Regio NRW) will provide service to and from the stop. Accredited participants of the conference will receive free passes for bus and rail, which should help keep the extra motor traffic and resulting emissions to a minimum. The conference at the WCCB and Rheinaue Park can be reached easily with the new stop. It will run from November 6th until the 17th.

Special timetable after the conference

The rail traffic situation in November will be made more difficult due to long-planned work on track renewal (Nov. 1 - 18) on the left side of the Rhine between Cologne Central Station and Cologne South. This will call for some short term closures on the route and some detours to the right side of the Rhine, as well as single track service with extensive timetable adjustments.

A German Rail spokesperson assured that "all lines between Cologne main station and the UN campus will be running as scheduled during this time. Despite the construction site. Everything that can roll will be rolling. "

After the end of the climate conference and the railroad work in Cologne, the trains will again operate according to a special timetable. German Rail is currently working on this transitional schedule which will be in effect until December when the new timetable is published. The German Rail spokesperson said that exact information could not be provided yet but information would be available online and at the platforms when it is updated.
