Zero Hunger Run Welthungerhilfe to hold charity run in the Rheinaue

Welthungerhilfe is holding its second charity 5km and 10km run in the Rheinaue next month and hoping to raise more than last year’s 23,000 Euro.

On Sunday 24 September, the day of the German general election, athletes will have two chances to contribute to a world without hunger. The charity Welthungerhilfe (World Hunger Aid) is inviting people to participate in a “#ZeroHungerRun” in the Bonn Rheinaue and also to circuit training with the Original Bootcamp. Lord Mayor Ashok Sridharan, the actresses Gesine Cukrowski and Liz Baffoe, and the singer Lucy Diakovska will also be there.

Actress and long-time supporter of Welthungerhilfe, Gesine Cukrowski, will fire the starting gun for the 5 kilometre run in the Rheinaue at the Japanese Garden at 11am. The event’s sponsor, Lord Mayor Sridharan, will be among those running, as will Lucy Diakovska, Liz Baffoe and the Bonn marathon city champion, Joe Körbs.

Runners in the 10 kilometre race will start at 12.30pm. Stephan Unkelbach from Radio Bonn/Rhein-Sieg will commentate on both races. Organisers want not only to improve on the best times from last year but also to increase the number of runners from 1300 and the amount of money raised from 23,000 Euros.

Participants in the “#ZeroHungerRun” pay a starting fee of 10 Euro for the 5 kilometre race and 15 Euro for the 10 kilometre race. Of course, amounts can be generously increased – all monies are used in projects to fight hunger. You can register for the race until 19 September at www.zerohungerrun.de. Late registration is possible on the day up to 30 minutes before the start of the particular race for an additional fee of 3 Euro. Anyone who does not want to run, or who still has some excess energy after the run, can take part in some circuit training with the Original Bootcamp Bonn.
