At the stroke of midnight, colorful fireworks will light up the night sky and illuminate Bonn and the region. The New Year's Eve fireworks are not only good for taking photos to put on social media, but also for creating memories. Where is the best place to capture the fireworks display with a lens? We have listed some places where you will have a wonderful view and be able to take some great New Year's Eve photos.

Drachenfels

The view extends to the east to the Rhine Valley, to the west over the Bonner Bogen to the skyline around the Posttower. Because of its panoramic view, the Drachenfels is ideal for photos of fireworks. The Drachenfelsplateau can be reached via the donkey path again after almost three years of closure.

Kennedy Bridge

If you don't want to climb quite so high up, you can also enjoy an excellent view of the fireworks along the banks of the Rhine from the Kennedy Bridge. For safety reasons, the city of Bonn closes the bridge from 11:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. to vehicle traffic and buses and trains. The reason is because a large number of visitors are expected on the bridge to ring in the new year. The fire department urgently requests that the tram tracks vicinity be kept clear for fire and rescue vehicles and not be used for launching New Year's Eve fireworks.

Kreuzberg

At a height of 161 meters lies the Kreuzberg. Overlooking the north of Bonn, the Messdorfer Feld and the city center, many photos of New Year's Eve fireworks can be taken from here. North of the Kreuzberg Church there is a lookout point, which offers a view as far as Cologne in good weather.

Finkenberg

The "northernmost vineyard of the Rhineland" is a small mountain in the Limperich district of Bonn. It is located west of the Ennert, the northernmost foothill of the Siebengebirge. Originally, the mountain consisted of a 119 meter high peak and three smaller hills. After many years of use as a quarry, the Finkenberg now only reaches 97 meters high, but it is an excellent vantage point for a beautiful New Year's Eve photo.

Messdorfer Feld

The Messdorfer Feld is also suitable for photographing the fireworks on New Year's Eve. The field is located between Dransdorf in the north, Meßdorf in the southwest and west, Duisdorf in the south and Endenich in the east and northeast.

Rhine River shore

Probably the most popular place to enjoy the big New Year's Eve fireworks is the Rhine riverbanks. Whether you stand on the left or right side of the Rhine, the fireworks can be seen well. In contrast to the busy Kennedy Bridge, there are fewer people if you go a few meters up or down the Rhine.

Tomburg

Surrounded by the Rheinbach city forest lies the ruin of the Tomburg. Today, only the remains of the tower are visible from the treetops. However, visitors can still take advantage of the strategically favorable location to enjoy a panoramic view of the fireworks. At a height of 313 meters, the surrounding villages can be seen from the basalt plateau of Tomberg. A short walk away is a car park, from where a path leads up to the site. The Tomburg is located in a nature reserve.

Rodderberg and Rolandsbogen

The old volcano in the southernmost tip of Bad Godesberg measures around 196 meters in height and thus offers an ideal vantage point for a pretty New Year's Eve firework display. Long known to hikers, it is along the Vulkanstrasse to "Heinrichsblick", one of the most famous vantage points with views of the Siebengebirge. From here the view sweeps across the Rhine valley to the striking mountain profile around the Drachenfels. But if you like, you can also take a detour to the Rolandsbogen. The remains of the abandoned Rolandseck Castle, which was built on the steep southern slope of the Rodderberg, offers a spectacular view and opportunity for a beautiful New Year's Eve photo.

These places are recommended in the foothills and the Voreifel:

Merzbach: Long since outgrown its status as an insider tip is the Feldwegkreuzung at the Trafohäuschen above the Bergstrasse in the Rheinbach mountain town of Merzbach. As the name Bergstrasse suggests, this spot offers an elevated panoramic view from Merzbach into the Cologne-Bonn area. Those who let their gaze wander to the north can enjoy the view of the silhouette of Cologne Cathedral and the Colonius, the telecommunications tower, on most days of the year. If you then turn your gaze leisurely to the south, you will see the no less striking peaks of the Siebengebirge, the buildings in Bonn's former government quarter and the Radom in Wachtberg. Year after year about 150 visitors come here on New Year’s Eve.

Todenfeld: The view from Todenfeld is just as attractive - also a high-altitude town in Rheinbach. The license plates seen in Todenfeld on New Year's Eve, reveal that the panoramic view is also appreciated outside the Rhein-Sieg district.

LSV observation tower: The fireworks can also be admired from above the sports field in Bornheim-Roisdorf. If you want to walk a little further, continue to climb from there along the Blutpfad and the Neuweg up to the vantage point of the Landschafts-Schutzverein Vorgebirge (LSV). The tower can be identified by its location: the wooden platform stands on the edge of the quartz sand pit and in the immediate vicinity of a transmitter mast. Whoever climbs the observation tower has a view over Roisdorf, Alfter and Bonn as well as up to the Siebengebirge.
