Gastro tip: „Wohnzimmer“ Wine advice „without any blah-blah“

Bonn · In a former tattoo studio near the Beethovenhalle, the two business partners Daniel Agdbedor and Daniel Wartacz (both 37 and friends for a quarter of a century) have opened the „Wohnzimmer“ - German for living room -, a new location for wine events.

The place presents itself with dark-grey walls, a massive black and white graffito near the entrance, wine shelves, sofa, TV and a dining table made from driftwood which seats 12 people. In a golden cage, wine bottles from very special years are being stored.

It’s supposed to be a particularly chilled out atmosphere in here at Daniel and Daniel’s. They don’t want to talk down the traditional wine tastings, says Wartacz. „But we know so many people who would never take part in one, because it would be too stiff for them.“ Behind the concept of the „Wohnzimmer“ (subtitled „The Drinking Office“), there’s Agbedor’s 2016 business „Wein doch!“ and the Bonner Manufaktur founded in 2015, which markets the internationally acclaimed Naked Gin and the „Fr3undeskreisw3in“.

The hosts are announcing events like „Tracksuit Bottoms Tastings“, „Winemakers Battle“ and „Barber Evenings“. „Advice without any blah-blah or bullshit“ is the motto of the pair. The shop is combining wine sales with events „which make you fancy wine“.

In the select assortment there are about 40 different items between seven and 70 Euro, amongst which there are six different Crémants from 12.90 Euro and Champagne by Taittinger. The white wines are mainly from Germany, some are from France, Italy and Spain. The red wines are mostly from the South of France, Italy and overseas. „We keep changing our assortment on purpose, we want to stay dynamic“, say Wartacz. „We want to surprise people.“

His own favourite wine is a Silvaner from the Werther Windisch vineyard in Rhinehessen, says Wartacz (10.90 Euro): „A slightly underestimated grape variety and simply a great wine.“ Daniel Agbedor chooses a Syrah from Chateau Ste. Michelle in the Columbia Valley (USA) for 15.90 Euro as his favourite: „A beautifully juicy, rich and earthy wine.“
