The traffic situation at the Bad Godesberg Tunnel is getting changed later than planned. The tunnel on the Rhine side will not be reopened to traffic until the weekend of June 29 and 30 and not, as originally reported, on May 17 and 18. According to the administration, the reason for this is the need for additional smoke tests for the new ventilation system. According to the press office, the delay will not have any effect on the timetable: It keeps within the scheduled 18 months construction time and a completion target date in February 2020.

"The smoke tests will take considerably more time than planned," said the press office in a statement. Work has been in progress on the Rhine side tube (north/Bonn direction) since August 2018. It is therefore closed and traffic is routed through the second tube in a single lane on the other side. Once the tests have been completed, work will start on the uphill tube (southbound / Bad Godesberg). This will then be sealed off, but the traffic will roll on the Rhine side - again single-lane in oncoming traffic.
