Company buildings evacuated World war bomb in Troisdorf to be defused

TROISDORF · A world war bomb was found in a construction site in Troisdorf on Tuesday afternoon. The explosive ordnance clearance service was called to the site, the defusing of the bomb was to begin at 9.30 pm on Tuesday. It could not be defused and will have to be blown up this morning.

The 250-kg bomb was found in an industrial area on Mülheimer Strasse near the centre of Troisdorf. The munitions clearance service was on site and wanted to defuse the bomb at 9.30 pm at the location where it was found. Because the bomb has some cracks, it cannot be transported. The bomb could not be disarmed for technical reasons, and it will be blown up during daylight on Wednesday morning.

For the blasting, evacuation must take place within a radius of 300 metres. According to initial information, mainly businesses would be affected by the evacuation. As the companies need a lead time of about 90 minutes to stop their production and to evacuate the employees, the defusing was only to begin at 9.30 pm.
