Bonn · Lord Mayor Sridharan attended the United Nations Climate and Sustainability Summit in New York and also promoted Beethoven 2020.
At the invitation of the United Nations, Bonn's Lord Mayor Ashok Sridharan is taking part in the climate and sustainability summit in New York until this Tuesday. Sridharan is part of the German delegation led by Federal Environment Minister Svenja Schulze and Federal Development Minister Gerd Müller. The city has announced this.
Among other things, the Mayor of Bonn will take part in consultations with cities and regions on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Sridharan, who in his capacity as president of the international city network ICLEI represents around 2000 local and regional authorities, will speak out at the summit in favour of rapid action in climate protection, more climate-friendly mobility and more climate justice.
"Cities and regions are the key drivers of success - in the middle of the urban age, now is the time to bring our innovation and experience to an urban era of life, not just through cooperation," says Sridharan. With ICLEI, Bonn will now start a new cooperation under the name "Urban Era 4 Life", which will be visible at an annual conference in Bonn, "closely linked to the half-year negotiations of the Framework Convention on Climate Change", according to the administration. Cities, science and politics are equally important", the administration said.
UN climate summit: themed breakfast on Amazon protection
In New York, the Lord Mayor of Bonn was also invited to a thematic breakfast on the protection of the Amazon and other forests hosted by the presidents of France, Chile and Colombia. This year, the Oro Verde Tropical Forest Foundation is the annual partner of the City of Bonn. One of the topics was also Agenda 2030. Sridharan is also promoting Beethoven's anniversary year 2020 and the UN site in Bonn.
