INFO The new construction of the Tausendfüßler
From the end of 2021, the centipede is to be renewed in four construction phases until 2027. The existing construction has reached its age limit. Between the Bonn-Nord motorway junction and the Endenicher Ei junction, Straßen NRW is planning a new bridge with six lanes instead of the previous four. It will thus be considerably wider and in many places closer to buildings. Both the animal shelter and the university will have to give up space. Instead of 70,000 vehicles per day so far, the line is to be designed for around 115,000. During the construction work, one lane in each direction will remain open. In order to ensure the noise protection of the residents, the planners have provided noise barriers up to twelve meters high.
A cycle path is not planned in these plans, even though the neighbouring municipalities applied for it in March 2019. For NRW, the high-speed route along a federal motorway would be new territory. From the point of view of the ADFC, it could run along outside the noise barriers and thus reduce the pollutant and noise pollution of cyclists. The feasibility study of the city of Bonn assumes additional costs of around 20 million euros for the cycle fast track on the motorway bridge. It will have to be decided and financed by the state.
