25 centimetres of fresh snow The weather service reports record snow in the Eifel region

Hellenthal · In the Eifel it hasn’t snowed as much as this in November for 30 years. But the magnificent white landscape shouldn’t last long.

A white blanket covers the Eifel. Since the beginning of the week, the low mountain range region has been showing its winter side, as the first snow pictures show. As announced by the weather service Donnerwetter.de, it has not snowed as hard as this week in a November for 30 years. Twenty-five centimetres of fresh snow were recorded at the weather station on the 700-meter-high “Weißer Stein” peak.

“That is not only the greatest snowfall in November, but also the deepest snow cover in November for 30 years”, said Karsten Brandt of the weather service. The snow is particularly heavy: “The very damp, wet snow weighs about 60 kilograms per square meter on the ground, roofs and trees,” Brandt said. This has caused some trees in the region to collapse under the weight.

According to the German Weather Service, however, the beautiful winter wonderland will soon come to an end. According to meteorologist Ines von Hollen, warmer air is moving across North Rhine-Westphalia. Temperatures in the double-digit range are expected almost everywhere in the state at the weekend. The weather situation on the “Weißer Stein” can also be observed via webcam.
