A big crock full of cheese, with different ingredients like bread or potatoes for dipping: Cheese fondue is one of the most popular dishes in the winter season and on holidays, and many combine it with a cosy evening in their own living room with friends or family. In Bonn and the region, however, you can also enjoy cheese fondue outside your own four walls. Here are some places you can go where cheese fondue is on the menu.


Mademoiselle in Bonn-Endenich offers specialities such as Baeckeoffe or Bretonian rock oysters as well as a Fondue d'Alsace. The French restaurant serves an Alsatian cheese fondue with potatoes, grilled chicken, pickled vegetables, dips, bread and salad if ordered in advance by two or more people. There are two types of cheese to choose from: In addition to the Gruyère AOP and Emmentaler version, Munster AOP and Emmentaler can also be ordered.

In the Gesindehaus in Bonn-Poppelsdorf, guests can order cheese fondue as well as German homemade food. The restaurant serves fondue prepared with Gruyére, Appenzeller, Emmentaler, white wine, garlic and cherry brandy. Bread cubes and potatoes are served with the fondue.

The restaurant of the Inselhotel in Bad Godesberg offers regional and international dishes as well as a Swiss style cheese fondue for four people on advance booking and in season. Many sides are served along with it.

Limes has almost become a tradition in Bonn's old town. Where beer is usually served over the bar counter, fondue is served on Sundays in December. Until Christmas, every Sunday the pub serves an all-you-can-eat fondue with cheese, (optionally with cherry brandy), various baguettes, grapes and potatoes. Reservations are accepted at the bar.

Restaurants in Cologne

Servus Colonia Alpina

The menu of Servus Colonia Alpina at Cologne's Heumarkt also includes cheese fondue. The cheese mix consists of Appenzeller, Emmentaler and Gruyère cheese. It is accompanied by bread cubes and vegetables.

The fondue in the Lindenthal restaurant in Cologne consists of the Appenzeller, Gruyère and Vacherin cheese varieties, with bread for dipping, rosemary potatoes and grilled vegetables. Reservations can be made up to six hours in advance.
