Electric shock on tank wagon 18-year-old killed at Troisdorf goods station

TROISDORF · Several ambulances were called to Troisdorf railway station on Monday morning after a young man was accidentally killed there. Two friends were taken to hospital suffering from shock.

The lethal electric shock occurred at about 5am on Monday morning. According to initial police enquiries, the young man had climbed onto a tank wagon, where he triggered an electric arc to the overhead line. The 18-year-old fell onto the track bed, from where he was recovered dead.

Two friends, who were with him on the tracks, said they called out to him shortly beforehand. A train driver also witnessed the terrible event.

The tank wagon was earthed while the federal police and the Criminal Investigation Department investigated the scene. The young man’s friends were taken to a hospital in Bonn suffering from shock. There were some disruptions to rail traffic in the early hours of the morning because of the accident.
