The 22nd annual Bonnfest celebrates its opening today on Friday, October 4 and will run through Sunday, October 6. The festival will once again offer a diverse program on two stages, one on Marktplatz and the other on Münsterplatz. There will be interviews, music and dance. On Sunday, a princess day is planned in affiliation with a children's day put on by Bonn public utilities.

University of Bonn is co-organizer for the first time

For the first time, the University of Bonn is on board as co-organizer alongside the City-Marketing association. Its designation as a University of Excellence is to be celebrated with the citizens of Bonn and the region. The university will be organizing the music program on Friday on the stage in front of the Old Town Hall. It will feature the choir and orchestra of the Collegium Musicum, a Big Band Battle and the band Münchener Freiheit. A gourmet mile will be set up on Münsterplatz, and Friedrichstraße will also participate once again. The theme is "Wine & Design" with offers from winegrowers around the region.

The festival will be opened on Friday evening at 6 p.m. by Bonn's Lord Mayor Ashok Sridharan, University Rector Michael Hoch and the board of City Marketing. Shops will open on Sunday from 1 pm until 6 pm. In the evening, the organizers will invite all visitors to the Marktplatz to sing the "Ode to Joy".

"Unknown Festival" on Friedensplatz

On Saturday and Sunday, various artists, music and dance groups and bands will perform on the Marktplatz and Münsterplatz, including Schlagermetall, James Smith Jr., the Hot Jazz Boys and Spökes. Interview guests include TV chef Stefan Wirtz, husband and wife entertainers Bill Mockridge (native Canadian) & Margie Kinsky. The "Unknown-Festival" with electronic dance music will take place on the Friedensplatz on Saturday from 3 pm to 10 pm.
