Bonn city center and north of Bonn was totally in the hands of the “Jecken” (carnival revelers) on Monday morning, and shortly after 12 noon the Rose Monday procession started moving along. With 5,920 parade participants, Bonn celebrated a new record this year.

Just in time for the start, the rain stopped: "The only thing that is supposed to rain today is kamelle (sweets)“, said the mayor of Bonn, Ashok Sridharan, as he welcomed carnival revelers to the Marktplatz in Bonn.

The parade arrived there shortly after 12:30 pm - led by the police and the Technical Relief Organisation (THW). "We can only thank all the emergency services for their work," said Sridharan. Directly behind the police and THW, a big snail led the parade. Written on it was the motto of this year's Bonn carnival in big letters: "Jötterfunke överall - Ludwig, Bonn un Karneval”, which refers to - you guessed it - Beethoven.

Big cheers broke out at about 2:15pm on the Marktplatz in Bonn. On the float of the “Bönnschen Funkentöter” there was a marriage proposal. And: She said "Yes".
